Tooth Filling

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a dentist provides a filling, they first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned-out cavity with a filling material. By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay.

Materials used for fillings include gold, porcelain, composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and sometimes zinc).

At The Dental Cure, we offer expert tooth filling treatment in Gurgaon, using the latest materials and techniques to ensure your tooth is restored effectively and aesthetically.

Procedure for Tooth Filling Treatment

At Dental Cure India, we ensure that the tooth filling procedure is smooth, comfortable, and effective. Here’s an overview of what you can expect:

  • Initial Examination: The dentist will examine your tooth and may take X-rays to assess the extent of the decay and determine the best course of action.
  • Local Anesthesia: To ensure you are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure, the dentist will numb the area around the affected tooth with local anesthesia.
  • Removal of Decay: The dentist will use a drill or laser to remove the decayed portion of the tooth carefully, ensuring all decay is eliminated to prevent further damage.
  • Cleaning the Cavity: After the decay is removed, the dentist will clean the cavity to remove any debris and bacteria, preparing it for the filling material.
  • Filling the Cavity: The cleaned-out cavity will be filled with the chosen filling material. The material will be applied in layers, with each layer being shaped and hardened using a special light (for composite resin fillings).
  • Shaping and Polishing: Once the cavity is filled, the dentist will shape the filling to match the natural contours of your tooth. Finally, the filling will be polished to ensure a smooth finish and to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
  • Bite Adjustment: The dentist will check your bite to ensure the filling does not interfere with your chewing. Adjustments will be made if necessary to ensure a comfortable bite.
  • Post-Procedure Care: The dentist will provide you with aftercare instructions to help maintain your filling and overall dental health. This includes tips on oral hygiene practices and any follow-up appointments if needed.

I rate Dr. Pooja Yadav and her team highly. Very professional in her approach yet so warm. Got surgery done for wisdom tooth removal. The surgeon took half an hour and very smoothly removed the tooth. 3–4 stitches were given and there was no pain during the treatment. Experience was really good. Minor swelling and pain after removal but satisfied with the follow-ups and care after the procedure.

Dr. Pooja is probably the best dentist in Gurgaon. First, I actually went somewhere else with my mother in Phase 2 a day before we saw her, and we realized that she is so humble and extremely good in her profession. She helped us understand the problems with a thorough examination and explained different ways to deal with them and the expenses involved rather than jumping into expensive treatment β€” something you do not expect from a doctor these days. I strongly recommend her and vouch for her expertise, knowledge, and professionalism.

A word of thank you shall not suffice your contribution during the COVID pandemic. I was in a lot of pain and terrified to move out of the house. Dr. Pooja Yadav's treatment gave me a lot of relief and with minimal appointments finished my entire dental treatment. The staff's wonderful care and the clean sterile clinic gave me a lot of confidence. I appreciate your courtesy for giving me the first appointment on both days. Thank you, doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Tooth filling is a treatment to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. The dentist removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and fills the cavity with a filling material.

Common signs that you may need a filling include toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, visible holes or dark spots on your teeth, and discomfort when biting or chewing.

The materials used for fillings include composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and sometimes zinc), gold, porcelain, and glass ionomer.

The filling procedure typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and location of the cavity. More complex cases may take longer.

No, getting a filling is not painful. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area around the affected tooth, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

The longevity of a Tooth filling depends on the material used and how well you care for your teeth. Composite resin fillings can last 5-7 years, while amalgam and gold fillings can last 10-15 years or longer with proper care.

Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings. Avoid biting down on hard objects to prevent damaging the filling.

Yes, you can eat and drink normally after the anesthesia wears off. However, it’s best to avoid very hard, sticky, or hot foods immediately after the procedure to allow the filling to set properly.

Risks and side effects are minimal. You might experience some sensitivity or discomfort after the procedure, which usually subsides within a few days. If you experience prolonged pain or discomfort, contact your dentist.

While rare, a filling can fall out due to wear, decay around the filling, or trauma to the tooth. If this happens, contact your dentist immediately to have it replaced.
